When summer treats us to the last warm rays of sunshine, and the aromas of the grape-harvest are all around us, Asti is transformed into the biggest and most distinguished wine cellar in Italy. “Douja d’Or” – staged in the halls and courtyards of the historic buildings - is the result of a final examination for hundreds of wine from all the Regions of Italy. To display the coveted sticker (a logo representing the “douja” - Piedmontese for ‘jug’ - together with vine canes and bunches of grapes, designed by Giugiaro), the samples of wine presented in strictly anonymous form must pass a tough appraisal of their appearance, aroma and taste. Impartiality is guaranteed by a voting panel made up of experts from Onav (the National Association of Winetasters).
A major promotion for the industry, it is accompanied each year by tastings, food encounters, conferences, exhibitions and musical entertainment.
