The design of the town, the layout of the streets, the presence of porticoes, and – above-all – tradition make Cherasco one of the best places for the “plunge into the past" of antiques markets. An intensely appealing atmosphere is created by the Baroque setting and historical buildings forming the backdrop to stalls laden with simple items from our past or displaying more noble objects, and the mêlée of goods and people seems to be observed with a certain sternness by the severe architectural lines of the blocks, and somewhat joyful understanding by the arches of the porticoes. The Cherasco markets live up to all the expectations of the curious onlooker, the manic collector, and even the spasmodic seeker of a particular part – often impossible to find elsewhere – with which an antique object can be saved without its very nature having to be altered: a lock, a key, the hinges of an old door or a door-knocker...
