Langhe Monferrato Roero
Though the environmental characteristics of the Langhe, Monferrato and Roero may be different, the three areas merge seamlessly together to create a blend of vineyards, castles, old towns and villages of great architectural significance. The local dialect and way of life contribute to fashioning a “small country”, with its own traditions, and above all food - in particular truffles - and wine.

The agricultural setting, the country folk, and the villages spread out on the hills form an environmental and social fabric which identifies as much with the present day as with history. The vineyard-clad Bassa Langa is a complex weave of picturesque hills, landscapes, and vast, ever-changing horizons marked by the profiles of towers and castles. The magical Alta Langa is famous for its wonderful views and deep silences, where areas of woodland alternate with chestnut and hazelnut groves. The Monferrato is one of the most celebrated regions in the country for its long history. The important role it played in the history of Italy is testified to by its artistic splendours: medieval castles, romanesque, gothic and renaissance churches, baroque monuments, and the works of home-grown artists and poets. In the Roero (the name comes from a noble family which once ruled over this land) the environment mostly remains unspoilt, characterized by beautiful landscapes and well kept small villages. The panorama is very varied, ranging within the space of just a few kilometres from the wild beauty of the “rocche”, a natural ancient phenomenon created by erosion, to majestic chestnut woods, the red expanses of fields of strawberries, and vineyards forming a web-like pattern with fruit and vegetable gardens.

This is a land of great festive and folklore traditions, which come to the fore from spring through to autumn. It is also a land of literary persuasion, with the novels of Beppe Fenoglio and Cesare Pavese as its epics. Scattered villages perched on the hilltops with their castle, tower, church, chapel, and small groups of houses are still as they were once upon a time: the remains of a past which is well worth rediscovering and getting to know.
