The Langhe
The Langhe: a slice of southern Piedmont between the Monferrato and Liguria.

A succession of gentle, vine-clad hills producing great wines and precious truffles.

Known by the Romans as “deserta langarum” on account of its harsh, impenetrable nature, today the Langa is one of the finest gardens of Italy, celebrated for fantastic landscapes and for outstanding local produce which is well-known throughout the world.

The nature of the Langhe is indelibly marked by the vineyards that stretch out at altitudes of between 400 and 800 metres over long chains of hills tapering towards crests on which enchanting villages stand, dominated by towers, castles and churches.

It is not possible to talk about the Langhe without referring to the great products of these hills: fine wines, cheeses, hazelnuts, and the real star of the show: the precious White Truffle of Alba.

Langa also means culture, with its two great homegrown authors, Cesare Pavese and Beppe Fenoglio.
And for nature enthusiasts there are endless possibilities for outings along the wine trails of Barolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Barbaresco, Moscato, Arneis, Favorita and the rare Pelaverga variety. What lovely surprises lie in store meandering along the romantic country lanes and happening upon villages of rare beauty, with unique, spellbinding views awaiting round every bend! Meanwhile, gourmets are guaranteed to find more than enough to keep them happy: a huge variety of wine cellars to visit, and restaurants where the very best of the cuisine, aromas and flavours of this land of great wine and food can be savoured to the heart’s delight.
Time changes man, things, and their surroundings, but the essence of the Langhe remains just the same, intact and authentic.

Age-old roads may have fallen into disuse, but the views they offer ranging over hills and castles are quite unique, leading visitors to discover villages perched on hilltops or nestling in the valley, with different cultures, culinary traditions, folklore and attractions.

And though autumn may be the most popular season for visiting the Langa, the invitation applies all year round: intriguing patterns of colours and light are formed by the breeze on the hills, while the sun and the snow tell of people who are strongly attached to the traditions of this land, and of their love of both hard graft and having fun.
